About us

HI! We are Agata and Leonardo.

We love sailing and travelling around the world on foot. It is the result when a sailor who loves the sea and regattas, who has sailed far and wide throughout the Mediterranean, falls in love with a very fond walker who has covered thousands of kilometres on foot around the world. We started to travel around Spain, Italy, France, Portugal, Turkey, and in the meantime, the need to have our boat increased, so we bought our first sailing boat. It was "Magic", an old Norwegian 35-foot sloop that gave us many satisfactions and adventures.

Con il tempo la nostra passione, anziché appagarsi, è cresciuta ed allora ci siamo chiesti come amplificare e condividere tutte le esperienze fatte nel girovagare per mare e per terra. Fu così che abbiamo deciso di trasformare il nostro amore per il mare e per il viaggio in un progetto. Abbiamo quindi fondato l‘Amateur Sports Association Safira Sailing con l’obiettivo di condividere le nostre esperienze di navigatori a vela e di camminatori. Nel 2017 abbiamo prima conseguito la qualifica di Istruttori Nazionali di Vela AICS e successivamente acquistato uno splendido Elan 434 Impression con il quale abbiamo scorazzato per i mari della Sicilia  e della Grecia. Ma stagione dopo stagione, miglio dopo miglio emergeva l’esigenza di trovare una barca più grande, comoda e sicura nella quale fosse possibile ospitare tutti coloro che volessero condividere le nostre proposte. Abbiamo girato mezza Europa ed alla fine eccola sbucare nella nostra vita: Safìra(2)! Uno splendido Beneteau Oceanis 54.

The term “Safìra” is full of meanings for us. The name derives from the Greek term and means “like a sapphire” . The word "sapphire" in its turn derives from the Greek word "sappheiros" or "blue" or it could derive from the Hebrew "sappir" with the meaning of "the most beautiful thing". But for us Sicilians, in our mother language, Safìra means "who is able to" or rather "he or she who reaches a goal or an objective". What a better name!

Nel frattempo la passione ci ha preso la mano (o siamo stati noi a prendere per mano la passione?) e nel 2022 abbiamo ufficialmente lascito i nostri rispettivi lavori (di ricercatrice universitaria e psicologo) per dedicarci a tempo pieno a questo splendido sogno!
